As a result of an unanticipated resignation by city of Winter Springs, Florida commissioner. Gary Bonner, that city’s government extended an invitation for qualified residents to apply for consideration, by the commission, for one applicant to fill the vacated seat and serve by appointment as a commissioner until the term expires in November 2012, just a few months later.

This podcast offers the insights from those voices involved in the appointment process as they explain how the appointment was enacted and the outcomes. Along the way, you’ll meet some of the applicants, hear the highlights of the June 25, 2012 vote by the commission to select the applicant and gain an assessment of the process the city used to fill the vacant seat from those involved.

Below are links to the extended comments of each person in our formal interviews and a compressed version of the audio from the commission meeting at which the vote took place. You’ll find links to the applicant’s applications to the city, the meeting agenda and the process paper authored by the city’s attorney. That paper guided the commission’s steps to nominate and seat the selected candidate.
