Oviedo City Council elections will be held on November 6, 2012. In the race for seat-3, incumbent Stephen Schenck faces challenger Karen Heriot. In seat-4, incumbent Cindy Drago faces challenger Bob Pollack. Key issues in this campaign include economic development, the changes in the downtown, transparency in city government, the new community center, and council endorsement for the school tax referendum. The five members of the Oviedo City Council each serve a 2 year term. The annual salary for a council member is $11,031. The council oversees a budget of $65 million dollars and a total millage rate of 5.1. Over the last 4 years, property tax revenues have shrunk dramatically with a corresponding reduction in the budget but revenues are currently on the rise. The city now has one third fewer employees than it did 5 years ago.
